Brontosaurus w/ Ion, Serena, & Ayce

The Brontosaurus was by far the biggest Dino-Rider toy made and for that matter, one of the biggest toys ever made.  The Brontosaurs was a he three feet long and was excellently sculpted.  This monster retailed $80 and I remember saving up for it.  It was well worth it.  The detail on the piece is really good and despite its huge size, was not the least bit cheesy.  The Brontosaurs included three Rhamphorynchus dinosaurs that would carry missiles and drop them on enemies.  It also had a crane with three different attachments and a land mine chute.  In the back of the small comic book included with the 2nd, 3rd, and Ice Age toys, the Brontosaurus pictured was an early artist rendition, as opposed to an actual produced piece.  The photo looks like a larger version of the Diplodocus with a slightly different take on the Diplodocus armor.  Apparently Tyco was not sure which design it was going to go with.  What’s funny is that in the cartoon episode, “Battle for the Brontosaurus,” the Dino-Riders are apparently trying to decide the same thing, as they scroll through different possibilities for armoring the behemoth.  This just goes to show you how closely Tyco tied in the cartoon to its toy line.  In my opinion, the final production piece of the Brontosaurus is much better.  Also, the comic stated that the Brontosaurus came with 4 figures – Serena, Ayce, Ikon, and Vector.  This would have been the first time that a Dino-Riders toy shipped with four figures.  Instead, only three were included in the set – Ayce, Serena, and Ion.  Ikon, and Vector were two major characters in the Dino-Riders cartoon that unfortunately never made it to the toy line.  The armor in the final production piece, which is basically a large circular platform, did eventually appear in the cartoon, in the Ice Age Adventure episode.  The head and neck of the Brontosaurus could be moved up and down but it did not have motorized walking action.  Then again, if it did, then for sure no one would have been able to afford it.  The Brontosaurus is really an excellent piece.
